Octopus Bh-2000 question

So I'm so excited I got mt octopus skimmer but the pump seems to be sputtering?? Is this because it has not primed itself yet. I'm afraid to leave it on, the side of the pump is getting hot. Do I need just let it run??? Any help would be so appreciated!!! Thanks

I finally got my skimmer working, just needed a little tweaking and now it's workin great. Just wanted to share my excitement . LOL..
