So I was staring at the side of my tank this evening to see how my homemade rock was coming along and if anything had grown on it when I noticed these orange things on the glass. It's due for a cleaning but I thought I would check and see what they were first. If they were anywhere but on the glass I would think they were the start of sponges or something. So any ideas?

Hard to tell but they kind of look like spaghetti worms
So several of them have what look to be branches like the one on the left and they are all that same bright orange. They all So don't have feeder tenticals just on one end of them. It's hard to tell if they do have feeder tenticals but there are multiple real fine points up and down them.

Labyrinthulaceae.
That looks the closest but I haven't seen any that have the same points that this has. Also this is bright orange and everything I saw online suggests that these are white or pale yellow.

Hydraulic cement mixed with sand and a tiny bit of rock salt. You have to use gloves when shapping it becuase it will irritate skin while still wet. Let throughly dry then soke in freshwater for a week or two. Change out the water whenever you get the chance.
Then you can put it in your tank to let it start getting seeded with organisms from your existing real live rock. It works best if your real live rock is really wild stuff with algea and lots of random tiny organisms becuase the homemade rock doesn't bring anything living to the tank just provides a place for it to live.
I got the idea from @PaulB and being a college student don't have the cash for as much real live rock as everyone suggests. Additionally I live an hr and half from a saltwater LF. I'm also enjoying the ability to make custom rock structures for particular spots in my tank.

That sounds awesome, I could make some really cool arches and cave structures. What brands do you use? How much of each?
