Hi. I just ordered a 24" Odyssea T5 with led moon lights for my 29 gallon tank. It has two 10K white bulbs and two blue spectrum bulbs. T5 Quad 24" Aquarium Light Strip Marine Coral Reef Cichlid LED 96W 4X 24W Bulbs | eBay . I was just warned, after the fact, of the fire danger. Before you pummel me with how crappy the light is and all the statistics of how low the actual wattage Im going to get out of it, I should tell you I have already read all that and Im not interested in that info. It sure beats the SINGLE 10K coral life bulb I'm using now and I needed an upgrade with LOW LOW budget, so that is what I got lol. What Im asking about is the fire situation.. Have anyone of you heard of fire issues with NON Halide fixtures (T5 bulb only) Or is the fire hazards mainly with the Metal Halide fixtures?? Thank you for any input on FIRES...

I have a 2-bulb Odyssea fixture and have experienced no issues.

The ones with the fire issues were an older model of the quad-bulb T5s, I believe, because of defective parts. I believe they have fixed the problem - just don't buy any used.

A buddy of mine had the old style and the ballast did almost catch fire and may have if we had not unpluggef them. I recomend going to lowes and buying a few pieces of ceramic tile. But a small box with an open top to mount the ballast in( if they still use the external kind). That way is for some crazy reason they to get hot or.melt it will help keep in contaoned in a fire resistand area. Tiles are cheap about 1.50 for 12x12 and evan.if u have an updater modle it is a cheap insurance.

I have 2, one with external ballast zero issues. Over three years on the 48" external and over 2 years on the 36" enternal with timers. I don't have a bad thing to say about them, lots of bang for your buck.

Thanks for the input. I think I will take the idea of putting the ballasts in something fire resistant also..

Only problem I have with mine, is the LED moon lights keep going bad. Even when I replaced them, they only lasted about 2 months.

I had a 24in version on my 10g when I first started, had it over a year, no issues. Last August I upgraded to a 33L, 48" tank and bought the 48" version. That too has been going strong for over a year now. Bulbs of course have been swapped for ATI's and it grows everything from zoas to acans to my sps with no issues. I know the older version were very bad but were talking many years ago. But no issues here

Miyags, have you called the company about the LED problem?
No, I just order new one's. They are cheap and easy to replace. I think it was just out of warranty when 2 of 4 moon's went out
