Well, I just got the phone call from work saying my medical leave/short term disability time limit has expired and I am now officially terminated from my job. I guess maybe that 33 long mixed reef build will take a bit longer to complete...

Sorry to hear this I hope you have a plan for this in place and filled with social security if this is long term disability.

I'm sorry to hear that man.

Stay strong, and surround yourself with friends and family. Stay involved in your hobbies and your family and don't give in to this feelings that keep you down and pull away from life. You will see things turn for the better.

I had bought up a Long term plan, but it only goes till the docs deem my knee completely healed. I guess its unemployment otherwise. Ouch.

Well at least you should be able to get unemployment pay until you can get this resolved or find a new one.

???Ya got nothing but time on your hands man!
I went through some real rough patches and the hobby kept me going. You might have to modify the method(price) but theres no other reason than that..
My 30 long aquaclear filter hob $10 refugium reefers laughed at me fenner cursed Tank that would grow anything including my mandarin made me very happy for years.
Happier I think than a $6k plug n play for sure. because I learned and grew.

Reef on.!

Stay strong!
Sorry about that i know it leaves us thinking.. what now.
I hurt my back last April on the job. I havenot worked since.
So now tomorrow i go to my nuro surgeon and i will be left with a choice. Surgery or loose my state insurance.
Keep that chin up and dont back down :-)

Been there myself for 14 months on a back injury. Came back as soon as Doctor said I could. It's rough but very manageable hope all goes well!!!

Thanks for all the encouragement. I guess you guys know that it feels like a kick in the teeth even if you suspect it's coming. I guess it wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't Christmas time and we weren't already feeling the pinch of me being out of work for 6 months. Shoot, I guess I should just be grateful that the infection didn't kill me like they thought it would when I was admitted to the hospital last spring. Or that it didn't take my leg like they thought it would. I got off with three surgeries and a total knee replacement instead. Anyway, thanks for the support. I'm sure things will work out in the end, I just don't care fore this helpless feeling after being the breadwinner all these years. The hobby may prove a good distraction. I already have most of what I need for the 33 long build. I can probably cobble together the rest of what I need to get going on the build.

Just a word of advice, I am not sure how unemployment works where you are, but here in CT, if your not healthy and available for work, you can't collect. My wife was on unemployment when she had our twins, and she couldn't collect for like 4 weeks after the birth because she was not deemed healthy enough to work because of the c section.
Good luck on your recovery, I had to worry about the same thing this year because of a serious illness.

Been there done it. Sorry to hear they waited until you were about to return for work, Keep records and Drs visits, you may qualify for SSDI. I couldn't work and was able to get SSDI, back/neck injuries. It's a long road but it puts groceries on the table. Hang in there, it can only get better! :)

I feel ya. I used to be a roofer till I fell off a 2 story and landed on concrete. Shattered my ankle in 9 pieces and fractured my spine. I remember thinking I'll be back to work in no time till my doctor brought me back to reality when he said this isn't something that happens in months were talking seasons lol. 4 surgeries later and 4 years on crutches, here I am playin in saltwater. It's a hobby that not only I love but makes me feel like I'm still getting things done which itself is rewarding. Tho it may seem items needed for your tank are out of reach at the moment, you just need to change you game plan. I've got a majority of my supplies off Craigslist. Sure you Gota wait till the deal comes but it will come, just have to be patient. I got a 500 dollar reef octopus for 50 bucks lol. Plus many other items. Sure it took me months to get where I wanted to be because I bought one thing at a time but once it started looking like I wanted it to it was more rewarding to me because it took a lot to get there. Good luck and reef on!!
