I would agree - quite a crazy day! who would have thought ohio state and georgia would end up #1 & #2 respectively??? I am a huge Ga fan but am confused as to how they would up #2 with the season they had. The BCS is so screwed up!! I hate it. They have Ga in the #2 position and now want to by-pass them for the national championship game. I agree there are other teams that should be ahead of them like LSU and VA tech. It just shows how screwed up the bcs poll is. They put teams in certain positions and then by-pass them because it doesn't wind up the way they thought it would. WE NEED A PLAYOFF FOR COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!!

ok I'm off my soap box now...

That Mizzou vs. OU game was awesome...mizzou never stood a chance!!! Go OU!!!

I'm a huge bulldogs fan, however, I don't htink they are going to make it to the BCS championships. Just because they sit at #4 doesn't mean they move up to the #2 spot. After all, they only tied their division and didn't get play in a championship game.. more likely to see LSU, USC, or OU there. I find it funny you are confused about GA's season's rankings and are more inclined to see VT there. Go Bulldogs!!

i think its going to be OSU vs LSU. LSU will get the nod over VT due to the head to head match up.....which I can live with. VT will go up to #3.

the conference champs all deserve to be ranked the highest IMO.

the craziest game of the day was that Pitt vs. WVU..........i was rooting for Pitt all the way! VT will get WVU in the Orange Bowl......which will be a nasty rivalry matchup!

my top 5

1) OSU (by default)
2) LSU (nod over VT due to head to head...same way it works in conferences)
3) VT (2 losses, both to #2 teams....highest SOS in the top 5)
4) OU
5) USC

i honestly still think LSU is the best in the country, they are severely beaten up right now which is why other SEC teams are getting shots at them. give them a month to heal up, they will be back to their august/september form which was SCARY, OSU doesn't stand a chance.

bottom line, you gotta win your conference championship to be seriously considered. i remember when nebraska went into the national championship at the rose bowl vs. miami....and they didnt even win their division yet alone their conference........they didnt even BELONG on the same field as miami.

if you want to start nullifying conference champships to put UGA/Kansas/Mizzo/Florida in....then whats the point? lets just go back to the bowl alliance instead of the BCS, and give Notre Dame a shot at the BCS every year regardless of how many losses they have...just b/c they are Notre Dame and are popular with the media.

in a +1 scenario......i honestly think it would boil down to the media rankings that are coming out today:

1) OSU
2) LSU
3) OU
4) USC

allot of teams would feel screwed in a +1 system (UGA, VT, Kansas, Mizzo, WVU)....therefore an 8 team playoff only sounds reasonable. if you go any higher than 8 teams....you are getting into teams that don't really stand a chance. in the 8 teams, take all the major conference champs (SEC, BIG12, BIG10, PAC10, ACC), then the other 3 are wild cards and will go to the human/media/computer rankings. this also leaves the door open for a mid-major cinderella...like Hawaii (i.e. George Mason in the final 4).

think about it, an 8 team playoff only consumes 2 weekends in December....then they can break for final exams and xmass.....and the top 2 can play a week after the other big time BCS bowl games. still gives plenty of time for the teams to prepare and fans to get plane flights and hotel rooms.

forget March Madness.......bring on December Delirium!

Honestly Al I agree with everything you posted. Unfortunately we could still get stuck with Ohio St and Georgia. IMO it should be Oklahoma and LSU.

I agree that ohio state should NOT be in the national championship. its painful to see them get in again, and AGAIN get destroyed.

FWIW......this is the major rumor going around on the sports chat boards that espn employees are leaking:

Kansas-OU Fiesta
Hawaii- W. Virginia Sugar
USC- Illinois Rose
Va Tech- Georgia Orange
OSU- LSU in National Championship

i have several problems with this scenario

Kansas-OU Fiesta (same conference...doesn't even make sense)
Hawaii- W. Virginia Sugar (actually, this is a pretty good pick)
USC- Illinois Rose (ehhhh)
Va Tech- Georgia Orange (re-match of last years Chic-Fil-A bowl....sucks for both teams)
OSU- LSU in National Championship (i can live with this even though I dont think OSU deserves it)

Why wouldn't OSU deserve it? They are the only team with one loss and beat as many ranked teams as LSU and Oklahoma with 5 each only VT has beaten more at 6.

IMO.......the computer rankings are what matter the most. the other rankings that factor into the BCS are all about media hype, and team popularity contest based on what people percieve when watching the games on TV....which teams *look* the best.

in the computer rankings....which accurately factor in and compare strength of schedule, quality wins over ranked openents, and all the stats that matter the most.....

#1 VT
#2 LSU
#3 OSU
#4 Mizzou

the media/coaches/human polls completely screwed over VT b/c when it comes to human polls, its a popularity contest. the *bigger* football schools will always win in these polls...leaving out any chance for a cinderella team.

it all comes down to the fact that OSU didn't drop that far in the human polls after the loss to Illinois. if they had dropped further.....they wouldn't be in the big game.

here is the final BCS standings

maybe i should re-word this......does OSU deserve to go to the championship? yes..they were in a major conference w/ 1 loss

is OSU the best team in the country? not even close

does OSU deserve a top 2 ranking based on the way they have played, or who they have played? definiltely not

it will come down to OSU getting blown out in the champsionship game, just like last year.

Seriously though AL I have to disagree about a blowout. Being from SEC country and knowing LSU pretty well, I have to say that this is a pretty even matched team right now. LSU has not been playing well the past few weeks and has squeaked by many teams this year. It's going to be a barn burner in IMO. :D

I agree Al - I bet osu gets blown out again this year. I do think oklahoma vs lsu would be a better match up and a more exciting game but oh well. I do think winning your division championship game should be a prerequisit to playing in the national championship game. If they are not going to have a play-off. I think an 8 team playoff would be a great idea instead. I just don't understand why it hasn't happened yet??? SOmething needs to be done - whether a playoff or changing the bcs rules around - the way it sits it just sucks. There has to be a better way.

I had hoped ga would play usc in the rose bowl - it would be nice to beat up on a ca team again - ga hasn't been to the rose bowl in a LONG time. The last time we went we beat ucla. oh well hawaii will have to do...GO DAWGS!!!

the silver lining for me is another sec team is in the national championship game and should win the title by beating up on osu...again!!

Yeah I think LSU hired Danny Ainge in the 4th quarter of the Tenn. game. That dummy threw it straight to them twice!! You don't expect that kinda stupidity from a Senior!! Although he never was that good. BTW - I am a Tenn fan just not happy with them right now!

if LSU and OSU played for the national championship next weekend, i would give it to OSU.

LSU is a banged up team right now, with ALLOT of injuries on both sides of the ball. the LSU team that has been playing for the past month, is a very different LSU team that stomped all over VT and Miss State in early september due to allot of injuries.

give LSU a month to heal up, and *IF* they can get all their players back.....i think LSU is going to run all over OSU. OSU's defensive is going to have fits trying to keep up with a fast team.
