Your making the point that we are some crazy butt bunch of reefers, cuz it's 1am est, and this test is making us look like this trying to solve this.....

You were cooking dinner and started a grease fire, and needed something to smother it. The closest thing at hand was the skimmer, so you grabbed the top and used it to put out the flames, but not before they reflected off the ring you saw in the gap between the stove and the counter.
 
You were hearing a rattling from somewhere. Used your ring to determine it was your skimmer lid vibrating. Then used packing tape to secure the lid to stop the vibration.
 
Your wife is leaving you cause you bought a new skimmer
