Hi all. I’m a little baffled.
I’ve been testing my KH and Ca daily for a while now. And I’ve felt the need to start dosing as KH drops to about 6.9 if I don’t.
I started dosing slowly on the 21/5/19 in equal amounts. (See picture attached) to the point I was dosing 2ml of both KH and Ca.
Now, this brought up my KH to 7.6, therefore I didn’t dose that day as I was going to do a W/C the next day (27/5/19) something came up and today, I’m about to do my W/C as I type.
KH today has dropped right down to 6.9- again!
Do I need to start daily dosing to keep it at the 7.5-8.0 range?
Why has my Ca increased and my KH dropped???
Salinity is a constant 1025-1026
I use Hanna checkers

I’ve a low nutrient, mixed reef nano tank (30litres) Use the Redsea blue bucket for W/C. There’s 4 SPS frags, mushrooms, Kenya tree, acan frag and the start of corraline algae on the glass I believe. The tank is 3+

Anyone help me?
Thanks
Emma.

How do the corals react? If everything is happy, I would feel fine running KH around 6.9

They’re absolutely fine + growth.
I’m just concerned that if KH drops in 2-3 days from 7.6- 6.9. I do weekly water changes, therefore by the time I do a W/C KH could be as low as 6-6.5

Could your results just be variability in the test kits? Looks to me that your calcium is holding at about 400 ppm and your alkalinity at 7 dKH.

Possibly. I use the Hanna ones. I was aiming to get my KH about 7.5-8 it’ll give me a little room for ‘error’/shift

If I were you, and I wanted alkalinity of 7.5-8, I would increase both of the 2 part dosage evenly to obtain alkalinity that I want. I would dose every day, even on a wc day (blue bucket should not effect the levels much at all). I would test alkalinity often and check calcium much less frequently and only be concerned calcium was way out out range (maybe less than 375 and above 500 ish)
