Clearly I've fallen behind on this thread. Things went really well for awhile, but when I tried to add a new, small PBT, I had an awful ich breakout. The PBT died and took the mandarin and one of the mocha clowns with it.

I tried to transfer a yellow eye kole tang from my main display and he similarly succumbed to the same fate. With the two systems plumbed together, pulling everything out to try and eradicate ich isn't feasible. Further, I've just figured out that the dimensions of this tank are not tang friendly.

Since then I've added a red stripe angel, a pair of mandarins and a new ocellaris clown.

I have a fairy wrasse in QT. I'm trying to figure out what else to add. The tank feels pretty empty still.

One of the mandarins was bullying the other pretty harshly, so I've pulled the bullying recipient out. I don't know of she is going to make it. She's pretty thin and not actively eating.

The fairy wrasse has gone into the tank and seems to be doing well.

Everyone in the tank is still pretty shy. I'd like to add a Yasha Goby or something similar to pair with my pistol shrimp.

Love your build thread!

Why did you label it “One Standard Deviation”?
Thank you and great question. This was designed to be a purpose built tank to support my love of mandarins, as opposed to my other mixed reef general purpose tanks, making it one standard deviation from the mean.

Updated FTS and some shots around the tank.

I swear that there are five fish in there.

I will probably regret placing these close together. I see lots of pruning in my future.

Proof of at least one fish, the surviving member of my mocha storm pair.

This clam and some of the sps to the left have been with me for quite some time. I need to trim back the encroaching zoas, but I'm feeling lazy. I hacked up my hands pretty good while break off vermetid snails in both tanks.

I'm impatiently waiting for these to grow in.

I love the coloration on these, even though I've already forgotten the name.

And this little guy has already wiggled his way into my heart.

I tried to add two different gobies to pair up with my pistol shrimp to no avail.

The first became a crunchy jumper from my frag tank:

And then this guy disappeared within 24 hours of joining the tank.

I tried adding three Anthias to the tank, only for them to dissappear within 24 hours. There's no sign of any of them.

I'm starting to suspect that my shrimp may be piscovores, or something is truly off in the system.

The strange part is that there is no sign of the fish. I'd expect to at least see part or a corpse given the size of these guys.

I added some emerald crabs and a desardjani tang to battle the bubble algae. And then watched my angel fish murder the tang. I couldn't get the tang out in time.

When to mix up fish meal: When was the last time you tried a different brand of food for your reef?
