I think they are cool.

Don’t sponges need silicates? I’ll bet your water is high in silicates. You need to find the source and filter it out. Your RODI water filter probably needs an upgrade or a changing.

They most definitely arnt cool. They smother my prized sps colonies. I test for silicate in my ro/di water frequently and I just changed the membrane and carbon block a month ago, and change my resin whenever the tds goes above zero.... in this case last week.
