Open sump help

I have a open sump, (no baffles) 40 gal
I have microbubbles everywhere. Is there anything I can do to calm these down?
Foam, or some type of bubble barrier?

My sump is like that (only smaller) and when I had micro bubbles I put some filter floss around the intake of the return pump.
You could also get a piece of "sponge filter pad" (I had to look up what it's called) to use as a barrier between the skimmer and return pump (kind of wedge it in there like a wall).
I have used both techniques in the past depending on what I had available at the time.

What type of sponge filter pad? Like the blue foam filter pad. Or something rigid.

Are the bubbles coming from the return back in to the sump?

Yes, I'm running a high rate of flow, have a 125 gal. Yes they are coming from the return

Assuming you have powerheads in the display tank, then you only need 1-5x sump->tank turnover for the return.

I run 2x, very quiet, no bubbles.

I have a hang on the back overflow, I run just enough to keep the siphon tube's clear of bubbles
