Opinions on SeaChem ReefGlue

Just had a particularly frustrating time with it so I was wondering if it’s just me. Ultimately just whipped out the Gorilla glue and solved the problem I didn’t know I had.

So what are your thoughts? And what is your affixing substance of choice? In my case I was re mounting an SPS frag to a plug. But it can be for any purpose.

I haven't tried it, always thought it was too pricey just because of the brand for regular CA glue. I've tried loc tite, and gorilla as well as generic Amazon stuff but my favorite now is the extra thick BRS glue. Much easier to work with.

I'll take good ole super glue gel over any of it.

Used it once. Was just the usual glue in performance. Started buying 8 packs of the cheap stuff on Amazon which worked just as well minus the high cost

Tunze coral gum is the best. It's 2 part, soft, and works fast.
Make a small ball and put your frag on and mount to plug.
Hardens fast once mixed.

Yea I usually use loctite or gorilla gels. I don’t have to hold them too long. I just grabbed this stuff just as an in my face convenience grab. It didn’t seem to set at all; almost. Held it forever. Only started to weakly set on my fingers once I tried to wipe it off; after minutes…

I’ll probably switch to the Amazon packs.

None that I've used work especially great. In fact a couple have been almost useless. I've used Tunze coral gum, regular CA glue, Bob Smith extra thick CA, and Bob Smith Coral glue cement. All of them have been underwhelming to say the least. You'll often see people talking up JB waterweld. There's a vid on YT of a guy who does underwater hull repairs demoing this product with a simple fiberglass repair and it was utterly useless for him.

The problem with all these glues and epoxies is that they simply are not sticky enough. Yes, they harden, but they tend not to stick very well.

If anybody finds the unicorn of glues for this hobby and associated applications please share the info.

I tie up my own flies for some of my local fishing and one the products that I use is UV light activated acrylic glue (similar to what a dentist would use doing bonding work). I had high hopes that this would be THE solution to all this gluing frag plugs and LR pieces together. Sad to say, it was no better than anything else that I've tried.

See I was reading that thinking it was going to work. I was trying to cure under my light, blowing, wetting, nothing. I have some silicone epoxy on the way to affix a plug to my glass. I’ll probably try a spot of it on my rock as well just cause.

Funny you mention your glass. Just yesterday I had to re-attach a GSP piece that had fallen off my back glass using extra thick Bob Smith gel glue. Hopefully, two times a charm. Or the frag piece will attach itself faster (via growth) than the glue de-bonding.

I 100% count on the coral affixing itself. The glue is just temporary to give it a chance, no faith.

For glass, glue has not been working. Going to try ReefDorks method of 3d printed plug and underwater silicone epoxy just a different way to not feel insane repeating myself

You're going to be real mad then when I tell you super glue bonds just fine to glass as well. Buying the silicone might have been superfluous.

You just have to clean the glass first!
