Hey guys!

I’m wanting to get a nano tank that I can use a sump on (20 gallon sump). Currently I’ve been looking at the Fiji 32, do you guys have any other suggestions?

I used to have a Red Sea 34, I never ran a sump, high nitrates were end result of my aquarium, sadly. Never could get them under control. So, going forward I was searching for a tank that I can use a sump on to help with more water volume with being a little more cost effective while running a sump.

If your only problem was high nitrates then I doubt a sump is going to be the remedy. I have tanks with and without. This AIO runs with no mechanical filtration. PO4 runs near zero and I have to dose ammonium to keep NO3 detectable.

TBO I've never heard of high nitrates being a problem so bad that its a cause for a tank failing. Out of curiosity what were your levels at that made you decide to quit?

It was about 9 years ago when I decided to cut ties. All I can remember were my nitrates were very high. I was preforming weekly water changes. I have a local fish store that is purely salt water, and they couldn’t figure out why my nitrates were so high either. All my coral started to die. Gorgeous tank by the way!

I ran a small skimmer, media basket, beyond that I can’t remember what my set up was. I’d love to get back into the hobby, I just want to be sure I don’t mess it up 😅

Welcome back. Plenty of good folks here to assist if needed. Personally I prefer a sump for the extra volume and room for gear to be hidden. I only bought the AIO tank above because my reefer 170 had a seam failure and the IM 20 fit perfectly on the redsea stand.
