Orange filters for DSLR?

Hi guys, I've been taking pics of my coral with the aquariclip on my iphone x and oneplus 7 pro and wanted to start using my sony a77ii DSLR. I starting buying orange filters lenses
on amazon but am not getting the same results as the aquariclip.









I've tried the Tiffen 21 Filter (Orange) and Hoya HMC YA3 Orange Filter. Now tried a set of chinese orange filters. Anyone have any recommendations??

I've not used a traditional filter like you show here on my DSLR, but I have tried using the orange filter that came with my Avast porthole and I wan't really liking the results. They basically just give you a tinted piece of plexiglass that you put inside the porthole. I stopped using it and now do all my color correction in Lightroom.

im just a bit confused how those orange clip on filters for the smart phones work but doesnt work for the big DSLRs. i'll have to look into LR software

Well, they should "work" on your DSLR but the same shade of orange is likely going to yield different results from one camera/lense/phone combo to the other. You may just need to experiment a bit to find the right one...or learn to adjust in LR / PS.

Its the lens filter size for various lens. Under your lens will be a circle imprinted followed by a size (52mm, 63mm, etc)

Forgive me as I am still missing something. Are you answering a question to a size of lens? Or are you answering fondoo's original question as to what filter has the same qualities and yields the same results as his aquariclip?

I only ask this because dslr's, lenses and filters are foreign to me. However I have a few and eagerly waiting for someone to answer the original question.

85 a or b or c is a specific orange filter that seems to best deal with blue LEDs on a dslr camera. You still will need to temperature adjust in Lightroom. Sony and Nikon can’t handle the extreme blue of LEDs with their limited white balance.

Canon cameras can adjust using its custom white balance to the blue LEDs without the use of an 85 a or b or c color filter. However the op has a Sony camera.

“85” does not have anything to do with lens size or diameter only with the color filtering specifics.

If you can figure out how to adjust your white balance within the camera you should be able to get better results. Try using a photo of something in the yellow-red spectrum inside your tank as your white balance.

Tiffen's orange/yellow filters are simply too high of a density - so the color is too strong. The cell phone filters are a lot lighter, hence the issue.
