No idea what this patch of orange/brown fuzzy looking goo is in my tank.

I got this tank (first tank) secondhand about a month ago and rearranged the rock work when I got it set up in my office. Since then I’ve noticed this little patch of strange looking goo. To be honest it hasn’t grown or spread or changed at all this entire time. It just looks, odd? It’s somewhat fuzzy?

Any ideas whatsoever what this could be? I have no clue. Thanks.

Charlie

Apologies for the blurry photos. I don’t have a better camera to work with

Knowing that the tank is secondhand and you rearranged the rock work, my best guess is that it’s probably a type of sponge. The tank was probably established enough to allow for encrusting sponges like that to grow.

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
