Other hobbies....

I'm not sure if this has been talked about here or not. I know that this hobby is definitely one that at times can be all consuming (time and funds), but what other hobbies does everyone else have? Here are some of mine so feel free to share yours as well:

SCUBA diving- Been certified for about 6 years now and logged over 100 dives. Basic Openwater and Nitrox certified. This is still my favorite hobby...nothing beats seeing amazing corals in their natural habitat and diving with turtles, sharks, and schools of reef fish.

Restoring and fixing my '77 Jeep CJ5- Had it since I was a junior in highschool. After snapping a connecting rod and having it shoot through the oil pan, my dad and I put in a rebuilt straight 6 engine with better carb and intake/exhaust manifold. It's pretty much rebuilt now except for the axles :) Here's a pic of when I got it and pretty much now:

Photography - After taking a photography class in college a couple years ago, I've been doing some weddings here and there and of course filling up hard drives as fast as I can with personal pics. I enjoy taking landscape, portrait, and B&W images. Although nothing beats converting to B&W with film, gotta love what you can do with film

Backpacking and Mountaineering - do this whenever I get the chance.

I guess my parents were right when they said that I always end up finding the most expensive hobbies...I just told them that those were the ones that ended up being the most enjoyable.

Ahh I love jeeps, don't own one anymore but after owning a cj-7, cj-5 and commando all at once it's very hard not to still love the things, fortunately I sold one off to a friend so whenever he gets tired of it or I give him enough for it lol I can get it back one day. Other hobbies though - hiking, biking, photography mostly nature, I think they're hobbies anyway, I liked them before i started working at a park and started to get paid for doing some of those things so I say hobbies lol. Is sleep a hobby?!? Oh, birding is the hobby that takes up most of my time I think, haven't really dont much lately but definitely need to do more, migration time!, all the cool little colorful birds are coming through after being south for the winter:D

RC cars, and racing real cars (HPDE and Autox) are the other two now. There used to be a lot more... That's 3 really expensive hobbies for me, I can't take any more.

I hear ya srcboy, although I don't do as much work on my Jeep as I used to and it's not my daily driver, I still can't get enough of it. I would love to have a ol' Wiley's someday...one of the cool Military ones :) I am definitely into birding as well since, like Tennessee, we get some pretty nice migratory birds as well. Just saw my first group (about 50) cedar waxwings feeding a couple weeks ago. Gotta love beeing outdoors.

Ike....awesome hobbies man....I have always wanted to get into RC cars (I'm assuming you mean the nice gas powered ones). My uncle owns a hobby store outside of Chicago and has mutliple RC boats, airplanes, and a 4 wheeler that he has a chainsaw motor hooked up to for use on the ice :)

Awesome Evo....looks fast standing still. What all have you put into it?

I also had that expensive hobby going on for a while.. when I was younger.. :hammer:

2000 Civic Si... (was fortunate to acquire a couple of sponsors like Bridgestons, TSW wheels, Meguair's, Injen, and some locals so that helped out before I sold the whole car)

I don't race gas anymore, but once upon a time I did race 1/8th scale on road. Now I race 1/12 scale pan cars and 1/10 touring, still "nice" but electric. Well... I'm on a hiatus since most of my stuff was stolen :(

The Evo has a lightened flywheel, aftermarket clutch, full exhaust, 9" wide wheels with 255s, a little suspension work, a little brake work, shortshifter, various shifter bushings, and a custom tuned ECU flash from AMS. That's about it for performance stuff. I've also done some audio but have avoided amps and subs to keep the weight down. It'll run low-mid 12s at the strip and rip up a road course. I'm trying to decide if I want to upgrade the turbo and shoot for around 450whp on pump and 600ish on race gas, or just wait for the Evo X or new STI and sell it.

Man, you guys have/had some freaking sweets cars. Although I'm more into american muscle cars and stuff that can got 4-wheeling, I have really been having the itch to get something that is FAST!!!

Sweet Honda Marv and Ike, your old ride was sweet. Sounds like you guys both had lots o' money in the cars. I bought my CJ-5 for about $2,000 and after putting in a rebuilt engine, paint job, spray in bedliner in the whole inside, completely rewired, new exhaust, holley card, intake/exhaust manifolds, brakes, I think I have about $10,000 in it and I would never sell it :)

Those new Evo X's look awesome....
