Hey all,

I have a number of really cool shells that were previously decorations etc, (pics below) im wondering if these can be put in the tank to be used by my hermits etc when they outgrow their current shells? Cant see why not but thought id check with the community before putting them in the tank, i think they'd look cool even if they're not used as homes straight away.

May seem like an obvious/stupid question but i'm a complete beginner.

No stupid questions here! :) You can toss them in as long as they're cleaned (I'd maybe drop them in a quick coral dip if they were decorations in another reef tank - if not, just scrub under some water with a toothbrush and pop them in the tank). They're natural shells correct? They do look a little large for even most full grown reef hermits BUT I agree, they'd look cool anyway even if they don't use them. I'm actually going to add some around the bottom of my rockwork for my next fish (blue spot jawfish) to use for building its burrow. :) My evil hermits keep murdering snails for their shells.
