My setup is a 55 gallon with 60lbs of live sand, 70lbs of live rock, 2x AquaClear 110 HOB filters (500 gal/hr each), and a 1050 gph wave maker. I just completed my cycle a week ago and have 2 clownfish and everything seems to be going smoothly so far.

Here is my question…I like to keep my tank as full of water as possible or the HOB’s introduce a lot of bubbles into the water from the water falling. Is it necessary to have some of that waterfall (and therefore bubbles) for oxygenation or will just the surface agitation alone be enough. I have 1000 gallons/hr running through the filters another 1000 gallons/hr from the wave maker but when I keep it full there are no bubbles.

Thanks

Strong surface agitation is sufficient.

The best way possible to provide oxygen to the tank is with a skimmer, but strong surface agitation is the next best way.
