The Panda Goby is a tiny and highly sought-after reef fish known for its adorable panda-like black-and-white coloration and close relationship with branching corals, especially Acropora species. Native to the Indo-Pacific, this small coral goby spends much of its time perched among coral branches, using the coral as protection while feeding on tiny planktonic organisms. Its peaceful nature and miniature size make it a favorite for nano reef aquariums. In the aquarium, Panda Gobies are best kept in mature reef tanks of 10–20 gallons or larger with healthy rocks, coral structure, and stable water quality. They thrive when provided with branching coral or similar hiding areas where they can feel secure. Because of their tiny size and gentle temperament, they should be housed with peaceful tankmates and are not suitable with larger predatory fish. Their diet should include frequent feedings of small foods such as Gamma copepods, baby brine shrimp, enriched frozen foods, and fine marine pellets. A mature reef with natural microfauna can help supplement their diet. With proper care, the Panda Goby becomes a charming addition to a reef aquarium, offering unique behavior, delicate beauty, and fascinating coral-associated habits.
