Par Level For MH's

Hey guys I have a 250w mh over my 34g cube. I starting to see alot of algae building up. I think my mh pendant is too low because I don't have that issue in my main tank which both is plumbed together. I also just picked up a par meter.


1. So my question is, what is a good par level starting from the top to bottom using a 250w mh over a 20" in height tank. ( bare bottom )?


2. Same question but 400w over 24" in height tank?

Depends on what you're keeping. If you're keeping primarily SPS, then reading about 400 or so on the bottom and about 700 at the top should be fine.

thanks bro. The pendant over my frag to was too low, reading a par level of 900. I'm raising it as we speak

If you are seeing algae growth what is the bulb age? They usually have to be replaced every 9 months.
