After this post, VBR changed their sensor (and meter) again.

Originally the old vbr was zero multiplier and now it’s 1.2? Why is that ?

Why? VBR makes undocumented changes.

I don’t know what the “now” multiplier is, as I’ve not tested the latest sensor/meter combo. I have it, but I’ve not compared it to my original VBR or the Apogee 500 series meter.

In your link with the newer test results, when you say old and new vbr, do you mean these

Now we have a new new, or “current” that’s even more visually different, untested, and what will show up at peoples home if they ordered today.

Can we all start referring to these as v1,v2, v3 etc

From what I've read about the VBR.....the biggest complaint is that the holding/location rod fills with water. For me thats a non sequitur on its ability to perform consistent (not necessarily accurate) par readings.

In our case, again, only used momentarily while switching from one light to another.... to mimic "par" and not shock the coral.

Also looks like the latest version uses solid "screw together" rod sections for those who give a sh=;t about it filling with water

That was V1 (1.00X) and V2 (1.17X). As best I can tell, there was a V3 sensor (1.4-1.5X), and now there’s a V4 sensor/meter. The new sensor has one large and one small eye. The meter now offer a UV value.

I’ve not used the telescoping rod. I hand held or used an acrylic rod.

They have a great marketing dept. Overpriced and overhyped IMO and you have to be willing to deal with mobius randomly changing date and time so your lights may come on at 3am. I have gen 4 xr15s sitting on a shelf because of the date time issue. My noopsyche K7 3 pros put out way more par than my gen4 xr15s and the gen 4 were supposed to be the best gen from what I have read.

I currently have an Apogee MQ-510, but I’ve been exploring some of the more budget-friendly options just out of curiosity (and to possibly have a backup). It looks like Danoplus and VBR are two of the main contenders.

From what I’ve read here, it seems like Danoplus gets more love, this is because they’ve kept their sensor type/ calibration more consistent across models?

Which brand performs best when dunking the sensor directly in the tank? Any known waterproofing or accuracy differences when fully submerged?

Are there any notable differences in features or usability between Danoplus and VBR? (App quality, data logging, ease of calibration, etc.)

I have a vbr and like it. They changed to a version with 3 sensors and people didn’t like it for whatever reason. It seems they went back to the 2 sensor version.

The only notable feature difference I'm aware of offhand is the VBR shows a rough breakdown of spectrum (divided into red, green, and blue).

@Cow VBR has jerked around with their sensor too much. Four different versions and two different meters. The current meter ditches RGB for UV, but because of the sensor changes, I’d steer clear. That sucks, because their first sensor/meter combo was great.

I’ve not seen the Dano change, and its readings are solid. Google telegraham humblefish par meter and you’ll find the comparison I did a bit back.

Very close. I bumped the white a little the other day but the look is about the same.
