Can someone just give me a hand with how I’m meant to go about this.

Originally my tank ran at
Alk 8.5
Cal 440
Mag 1280
Nitrate 40
PO4 0.1

Problems started when I was using hanna checker every week to monitor how much my tank was using (old reagent started gives off results) and I ended up over dosing. New reagent and salifert confirm I’ve bumped the alkalinity to 11.8. Since then I’ve done 2 water 10% water changes over 2 weeks

My latest results show
Alk 10.3 ( last week was 10.3 too)
Cal 450
Mag 1520
Nitrate 100+
PO4 0.25

now nitrates and phosphates may be over feeding with addition fish I’ve added or that I boiled a rock that had aptasia on it and then threw it in the sump.

how do I fix everything to get it back to where I was lost all my sps that I had left now only softies and lps.

What were you dosing?
I was doing baking soda. Hanna checker said the alk was 6.0 dosed 40g got it to 8.0 1 week later dropped again to 7.0 dosed again got it to 8.3 used a new reagent a few days later to see its 11.8.

the only sps I had left was a birds nest coral which went from this to this (pics below) during the alk swing (looks a lot worse now).
Nitrates only shot up recently maybe 1-2 weeks ago the alk swing was end of March start of April time

I’ve lost 2 large colonies before hand and I’ve tried everything since to keep parameters more stable. For the birds nest coral. Just can’t seem to keep anything alive in the tank

You won't keep any SPS alive with your nutrients shooting around like that.

I have the same birdsnest and my dosing pump is broke. My alk varies 2.5 dKH each day until I dose it with baking soda. Doesnt bother SPS a bit. Its the daily average that matters for SPS. I'll attach a pic to prove it.

You admitted adding fish and over feeding, so you know what the problem is. Over stocking and over feeding. You need a really good skimmer and a fuge with chaeto and likely water changes as well. That's just to get nitrate under control.

You need to dose alk daily to keep it stable. Its the one parameter that depletes the fastest.

My nitrate stayed at 40 for nearly 2 years nothing is consumed in my tank I tested everyday for weeks nothing changed. The rise in nitrate was 2 weeks after my sps died off though? So can’t of been the nitrate ?

Blue tang
Yellow tang
Foxface
Goby
2 clowns
Royal grama
Mandarin
5 anthias
Bangai cardinal
Midas blenny
Flame angel

it’s a 700litre tank

have been trying to get some chaeto have everything ready to set it up
Skimmer isn’t great but is for tanks up to 800l
