Is this something I should be worried about or just part of the ugly stages? Looks to me like diatoms.

Here it is under white light. I am waiting for phosphate checkers but as of last time I checked nitrates, nitrates were all in check and at good levels.

Much easier to tell now. Your tank is brand new and things are going to get a lot worse. It's all normal when using dry rock. Continue to manage parameters. Don't let them ever bottom out or get too high. Might be time for a small clean up crew, with more needed later. Remove excess algae by hand during water changes.

Oh boy here we go, in for the long ride. Got 3 snails in there now and a peppermint. Have had them for about 3 weeks and hoping they start eating that. Thinking about maybe getting some hermits to help out?

What size tank? Diversity is best.
