I release 3 small peppermint shrimp into my 1oo gallon cube about 3 days ago. They went to the rock work and disappeared. The wife and I have yet to see hide or hair of them. Even searching at night. I don't believe anything in there is a predator. Diamond goby, firefish, citron gobys, snails. That's about it. Maybe a hermit crab?? I only have a few of those, and there pretty small.
Is this normal? Are they just shy and secretive? They've got over 75 lbs of pukani to hide in.
Thanks.

Mine stays out at all times. Do they run out when you feed the tank? Mine runs like forest gump when it's feeding time.

A friend with a BioCube 29 has one in his tank along with a skunk cleaner shrimp.
Sometimes he can't find the peppermint for a week at a time which seems unlikely for such a small tank, but I see the tank often and I can't find it either.

No, like I said, we've yet to see them since releasing them into the tank.

Ok, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.

I've had peppermints that love to hide and I've also had some that love to be out and about. I do know that when they hide, they usually hide together. I also know that when they die, you want notice it for a while because everything in the tank will help eat it up.

I had three in my 75g but can only confirm two are still alive. They've been in there for at least nine months now I imagine and they go through phases where they're out and about or tucked away in the rocks. Before going SPS dominant, they spent a lot of time around a torch coral that provided some nice cover for them but since going SPS dominant with a bunch of small frags, they stay tucked in among the rock work. Sometimes they're really bold at feeding time and other times I don't see them at all. I wouldn't be too concerned at this point.

I have one in my 2.7 gal and I never see it, lol. occasionally it'll come out when I feed the tank. I can imagine them hiding really well in a larger tank

Yeah I have one in a 16 gallon bow front and I don't see it for days on end. It usually comes out when it senses food, so maybe try dispensing food near the rocks to get them to come out.
