Just wondering if anyone familiar with this species, o bought it thinking it could be photosynthetic and it looks like it is, any ideas? The growth pattern is not familiar to me to other known photosynthetic species that I’m used to.

I believe it is, only opens at lights on. Will look into the suggestion. Thank you

Kinda blurry but, when retracted, does the skin/flesh look ruff? Like where every polyp was there is a bump?
That would be a corky, but if have to look at others.
Still looks like a candelabra
Or maybe?

Definitely not a Caribbean gorg. That means that it is an Indo-Pacific, and just about all gorgs from that area are non-photosynthetic. I went through my "Corals" by Borneman book and found nothing that resembles yours.

Normally I tend to believe that all colourful gorgonians are non photosynthetic, I’m just thinking this one may be as it only opens at lights on.

I agree - to the best of my knowledge. Its the brightness that is throwing me off tho. That is gorgeous.

Perhaps orange spiny gorgonian/rusty gorgonian? Muricea elongata?
Unlikely, but maybe Muricea californica? The yellowish polyps are throwing me off but the Muricea californica is a cooler water species and I'm not even sure they'd be legal for export anyways.

Hey, I have a shop that regularly sells those gorgonians...did it turn out to be photosynthetic? Definitely Indo-Pacific btw.
