Hello, this is my first hammer. Could someone tell me if these little pink protrusions are part of the hammer, or a pest? They look like they have little tentacles.

Assuming they are stationary, my best guess is some kind of sponge or algae. If that is the case I wouldn't worry too much about them, though you could scrap them off if you like.

I have these on my nemenzophyllia, pretty sure they're called Benthic* foraminiferans, harmless filter feeders

Nevermind that's not what they're called, let me get the name

It was it, I just misspelled it, @ISpeakForTheSeas IDd the ones I have as "something like Miniacina miniacea" either way harmless/beneficial filter-feeders

Think I found it. . . pink Homotrema rubra???
It looks really close to that. That might be it, thanks. If they are harmless I will leave them alone, because from the photos I see online they are actually quite pretty.

Old thread:

And the Coralax even chimed in (I really hope your name is a Lorax reference @ISpeakForTheSeas, otherwise my joke will make no sense):

Haha, yeah, it's a Lorax reference - and yeah, assuming these feel hard/solid rather than soft:
Looks like a benthic foraminiferans to me (possibly Miniacina miniacea or a branching morphotype of Homotrema rubrum to me) - harmless filter feeders.
