Not sure what the best is but I’ve always preferred threaded with thread sealant. I’ve never had any problems with check valves and just use what’s available when I’m purchasing.

Slip inside, threaded outside. This way you can modify the internals (since they don’t need to be glued) while still maintaining the ability to disassemble the plumbing for future changes.

The best check valve is not needing one. In a saltwater setup, the biofilm can render them useless in a remarkably short amount of time. It’s smarter to design the system to not need them.

I prefer threaded inside slip outside. That is my preference. There really is not a wrong way as long as it doesn't leak. I have had more issues with threaded fittings weeping, not really leaking, just a small bit of salt creep.
I use spears true unions. Mainly so when the pumps turn back on, it does not pump a bunch of air bak in the tank. You want a system that if the check valve fails it won't drain your whole tank into your sump/floor.
If you get a true union you can clean them as regular maintenance.
