FWIW : I have used about 8 boxes of your salt so far ..Overall impressed with how my livestock looks ..But the problem i'm having is with a black residue that is left after i mix the salt ...It has been in every batch i've mixed up so far ...NOT a clean mixing salt!

HI , Thanks for your comment, i can quarantee you that the salt is clean, we checked every batch by more then 180 ICP Tests, a reason for such thing is sometimes the water , high gas pressure which let react some elements ( anticacking ) or it also can come from the RO. Its rare but we have this sometimes, if you like i can send you an free ICP Test and we check all for you in our lab.. rgds claude

No Thanks , I see the same residue after mixing every batch .. I use R/o followed by triple DI resins resulting in ultrapure water.. Its not the source water..its something in the salt.. The salt has a good effect on the specimens I'm keeping ...so maybe I'll just have to filter the newly mixed saltwater through some type of mechanical filter , something like a 25 micron pleated cartridge filter ...anyway - you should look into what is the black crud residue that forms on the inside of my mixing vat as well as on the surface of the mixed salt + water...

Hmm difficult then for us to help you out , A to high TGP has nothing to do with your way you treat the water, We sell around 600 tons yearly of the salt in the US if there were something in the salt you could read that surly in forums and it made no sense that this happens only in a few places. We could always help everybody out when such things happens as long they want. If you change yoiur mind you can get us always under [email protected].

I just wiped down the inside of my polyethelyene mixing vat after making approx 200 gals of YOUR salt mix with my r/o triple DI water ..Rag was just out of the washer and pristine , prior..and the mixing vat was sterilized with peroxide and wiped clean prior to making this batch of water .......... OH NO ...there's no crud in YOUR salt ...It mixes clean ...just like your ads say ....lol

why not create a feed back post versus derailing this thread and sounding obnoxious

Out of curiosity, was that 200gal mix in one go in a clean mixing container or multiple mixes?

I use Fauna Marin salts and so far not seen residue in a clean container.

Did you try to mix a batch in a bowl, like 1l-5l batch and see if you get the residue?

I do get some residue over time (6+ months) and it gets worse if I let the new mixed water stay there for some time before use.
In my case it is just organic build up over time. The new salt water mix is ideal to support life so things start to grow on the container surfaces and build up over time.

multiple mixes. i agree it is a good salt , if not for the organic crud...I suspect a high iron content as well..the reside is black and clings to the surface or anything dippped in the mixing vat ..you can almost skim it off the surface with a cup if you dip it right...

I have not seen the film on the top yet. Will pay attention next time. Do you have a picture of what to look for?
I do get oil film in my planted tank and I know that is plant related (solution is to skim and mix top water).
In fresh salt water mix, that is something new. Maybe it has been there I just didn’t pay attention. I do keep water pump that keeps gently moving the water for me in the mixing container.

Just grow it: Have you ever added CO2 to your reef tank?
