Hello everyone!

I was curious if anyone has ever heard of a poisonous gha? Not to humans but fish that eat it.

I have been battling gha for over 2 years now. I have tried just about everything to combat it (including fluconozal) and I am winning or keeping it in check. However I keep losing fish that eat it. Over the year I have tried multi tangs and fox faces. All die. The only thing that doesnt is my lawnmower blenny.

The fish all survive a week and then randomly die. I always leave multiple food sources for them yet once I see them actively going after the gha then they die. :-(

I also have to add I have a full mixed reef and the only other animals that would be any threat is a coral beauty, my anemones or crabs.

My system is on a apex with a triton method style setup with 1ml nopox and 3part dose. And have sponges / micro fauna galor growing.

Any clues?

Need an image of the algae. Some types of Dinoflagellates are toxic to fish.

That does look like GHA, so I do not think that is the cause of the fishes untimely deaths. How large is the tank? I see multiple Damsels? How large were the new fish? Coral Beauties and Damsels can be rough on new introductions.

18x48x30 tall 110 gal with lots of caves and hiding spots. the herbavors that died were all larger than tank mates and over all the tank is peaceful. They were supposed to be the alpha fish anyways and I never seen them being harrassed. Foxface has spines and tangs have barbs. Also the GHS does have a very strong smell to it. the tank doesnt smell but when I pull out the gha boy can you smell it.

When to mix up fish meal: When was the last time you tried a different brand of food for your reef?
