WOW! This is just depressing:

Nearly 35 years after taxpayers spent $55.7 million building the Pontiac Silverdome and a year after a $20 million sale fell through, city officials have sold the arena once called the most desirable property in Oakland County. The price: $583,000.

It was sold to a Canadian who wants to bring an MLS Soccer league team to the area.

I'm a fan and have wanted our own Team for a couple years now, and kind of excited about it. Although it could be a huge failure....we shall see.

It costs over $2,000,000 per year to maintain and it was draining the citys cash flow

The company that offered $20 mil is sueing in an effort to prevent the sale for $583K. The offer for $20 mil was to turn the dome into a horseracing track/casino/hotel, and it fell through due to people not wanting the gambling and such.

A company out of Toronto bought it, and they're going to have an MLS (Major League Soccer) team there... which will likely fail (sorry Shawn ;)). We already had a soccer team in Detroit, the Rockers, that failed miserably. It's just astonishing to me.

Come on Austin...Soccer has come a long way in this country since the Rockers era LOL.

The co. that plans to bring the MLS team here said that they will fill the seats.

Although the Hantz groups Michigan Indoor soccer team Ignition just failed miserably this year and the team was sold.

Hey I used to go to all the Rockers games when I was a kid, when the team was hot, they actually did pretty well, and normally filled up the seats at Cobo Arena, but Cobo is SOOOO small so it was easy to fill up.

You should of seen Cobo last night though......the smell of Patchouli oil, and Mary Jane filled the air and the hippies whereA dancin ;)

I'll go to the games... I grew up on the sport and am forced to watch international channels to see anything decent!
