Hello, I just purchased a new aqua fx RO system and found out I have anywhere from 400-500 TDS and don't want to run that through my machine and don't have a water softener so I got looking and found a portable rv water softener so i was wondering would this work with the RO system ? it says it treats around 1000 gallons using table salt. price is affordable and I don't have 400-1000 to spend on a normal water softener. so would this work ? thanks

The cost of the softener far exceeds the cost of a replacement RO membrane in 3-5 years when it starts to fail. I wouldn't worry about it for now and save for a full size water softener, the RV model isn't going to treat 1000 gallons I guarantee you, it doesn't hold enough resin to do so at 400-500 TDS. Plus softeners remove calcium carbonate hardness which is not always the same as total dissolved solids. What is your hardness?

Yeah, completely makes sense thanks AZ appreciate your help. I wasnt sure on it but figured id ask. as far as my hardness goes im not sure need to buy some more testing equipment soon ive actually been kind of wondering what my hardness would read out.
