Possible Cyano Outbreak

Hi all! Relatively new to keeping a saltwater tank. We have a 50G cube that's been up and running for about 4 months now. We have a sump with a filter sock and protein skimmer, and we do 10% water changes weekly. Also have an ATO to stabilize salinity. Feeding is usually 2x per day.

We just came back from a 5 day trip and have a bunch of what I think is Cyano. Can anyone help confirm that this is Cyano, and help with any treatment plans? Would eventually like to add coral but want to get the tank dialed in first. Thanks in advance for the help!

Parameters are:
Temp: 79 degrees
Salinity: 1.024
Ph: 8.3
Alkalinity: 7.7
Phosphate: .01

Hi

I would suggest adding the CUC and don't overfeed. Over time it should go away. If you're not patient enough red slime and WC should do the trick.

Thank you @BlueNem! We have two clowns, a Talbot damsel, and a Springer damsel, how much do you recommend feeding per day? We may also add another wavemaker to increase flow.

Hi

Twice a day is good enough but the quantity you give each time you feed is what matters. Just give enough food your inhabitants can consume in the next 2-3 minutes nothing more.
Also I don't feed once a week so they eat stuff around (microfauna algae etc).

We had this same issue but not as bad of an outbreak. We used chemiclean and it was gone in only 3 days. We did everything as instructed except I put a little less of what the required dosing asked for because I had never used the product before. Despite this, our results were still amazing. Highly recommend Chemiclean for Cyano issues.

Also just to clarify,
We had tried everything we knew to do to get rid of our cyano. We tried manual removal, adding Copa pods, and more cleanup crew… none of this worked and it would always come back. It also was coming back quickly as in over night even though our lights were off during this time. We were worried it would grow over our corals and kill them in which we ultimately decided to use chemiclean. We have had no negative reactions with any fish or corals after use.
