I'm cleaning out some of my supplies and I came across a 125g bottle of potassium permanganate. I vaguely remember purchasing this as a dip, but I don't remember actually using it. I also remember a lot of warnings about how harsh it would be on corals. Is there any common use for it in a reef tank/maintenance?

If it's limited in its value, what's a safe way to dispose of it?

TIA

Use it to clean your toilet water lol. People used to use it as a water clarifying chemical. But its like peroxide its not selective.

I do not know recipes for it as a dip.

Some folks used to recommend adding it directly to the aquarium for an effect like ozone, but IMO that is a bad idea.

Did you try making Elephant Toothpaste at some point? I vaguely remember potassium permanganate being an ingredient in one of the (less than kid-friendly) versions of it.

Thanks everyone. I had to look up elephant toothpaste, that's a crazy reaction!

I think I bought it originally as a flatworm dip, or for zoa nudibranches. But I'm also pretty sure I never actually used it... down the toilet it will go!
