Scientific Name - Acanthurus japonicus

Common Name - Powder Brown Surgeonfish

Size - 8.3" (21 cm)

Min. Aquarium Size - 75 US Gal. (284 L)

Foods and Feeding - Varied diet of mostly vegetable matter, dried and frozen herbivore foods, marine algae, blue green alga Spirulina, pieces of zucchini, broccoli, leaf lettuce and sushi Nori (dried seaweed). Feed 3 times a day.

Reef Compatibility - Generally safe, will spend most of its time browsing on filamentous micro algae and small fleshy macro algae. If under fed may nip at large polyped stony corals.

Captive Care - Keep only one unless a very large tank is used over 180 US Gal. (681 L) where a small group may be kept. Can be aggressive if crowded, provide plenty of swim room, and a selection of herbivores fare. do not mix with more aggressive Acnathurids, provide plenty of hiding places and floating algae during acclimation, this fish can be a finicky eater, ships poorly, and should be acclimated carefully. A quiet tank will help in the acclimation process.
