Predetor reef tank

What would it take filter ways to make a predator reef tank? Lps and softies, I doubt I could get it clean enough for sps.

Skimmer, bio reactor, carbon, what else?

I have a 220 reef with mostly sps. I have two large triggers, an adult emperor, a powder blue, naso, and a lemonpeel. It works out for me but the angels will eat zoas and chalices. The lemonpeel nips sps from time to time too. Triggers are no problem at all except for the fact that they spit gravel around and get it on the corals.

I use biopellets and a big skimmer to keep clean water. Here are a couple of shots from a few months ago.

Regarding filter socks, they're not a magic bullet, and I do use them, but they are a PITA. They just remove big particles from the water. You have to change them at least once per week if not more. I run two at a time and own ten of them. This allows me to change them out without cleaning them. When they are all dirty, I throw them in the washer. I'd like to redesign my sump to do away with them.

And there s why I never have ran them. I would rather let the big parts either go into the skimmer or lay on the bottom, then clean them out weekly or monthly. Rather that then have a sock clog and create a nitrate mess.

I personally love my filter socks and would run a tank without them. After looking at them when I change them out I'm glad that much waste is out of my tank and not settling to the bottom, just my personal preference though and I don't mind changing them and like said before you will need multiples for the change outs.

That's a nice tank u got there sawdonkey! I had a humu humu and he did the same thing with the sand. My tank was set up as a predator tank before I drained it and started all over again with a full reef tank. Predator fish are some of the nicest fish out there and really enjoyed feeding time!

Also, I always run gfo and occasionally carbon if I want to make the water look crystal clear.

With this combo (pellets, socks, gfo, carbon, big skimmer) I feed heavily and still have my parameters in check.
