For larger mangroves (not propagules or smaller mangroves) see in picture attached, that have been grown out in soil and water in a bucket like this, what is the best way to transition into being fully in water? I don’t mean fully submerged i just mean the roots being fully in water in a freshwater tank (then acclimated to salt later). A while back I had a mangrove that was potted and I put it into a freshwater tank (sand substrate, nutrients etc) and it got root rot, super squishy stems. How can I prevent this again?

I’m not an expert on mangrove trees but I would think that they would need some salt in the water to prevent rot from happening?

They are brackish or marine plants and fresh water would tend to cause them to fall apart from osmotic pressure over time. A brief freshwater flood would be okay but long term freshwater exposure is not likely to be good for them.

Thank you so much I appreciate it! I’ll definitely make the water brackish
