Profilux firmware updates are not without problems, mostly because of communication issues.

I have been told that a new way to update the firmware via WiFi was under development. That would be great news, specially for all of us that use Mac computers. I used to update Profilux firmware in my old P3 by using Windows 8.1 installed in a partition of the hard disk of my Mac. I have tried to do the same with the P4 but it does not work because of problems installing the USBVCOM port.

Firmware updates via GHL Connect would be just great. Is that coming soon?

I believe there is an actual GHL Profilux Controller forum on R2R that you should repost this to. It seems to be actively monitored by GHL support people.

You need to buy and install one of these:

And it will provide following benefits:

The tricky part, before you install the card you need to update your P4 to the latest firmware and since you are on Mac the issue you mentioned is a problem.
For some unknown reason I was able to update my P4 with Mac using the Parallels desktop/Windows combination. But it didn’t work on my Prolifux Mini, so it is hit or miss.

Good luck,

Hi, thank your for your response. I already have a PLM-LAN card installed. Actually, my P4 controls the Mitras fixtures through it. However, as far a I know, you can not update the P4 firmware through this card. If you access the P4 via GHL connect there is no option to update the firmware, as it happens when you connect via GHL Control Center.

Out of curiosity how are you controlling the Mitras with the PLM-WifiLan card? I didn’t know that could be done.

The official description does state firmware can be updated over Wifi with the PLM-WifiLAN card:

I have not used the update feature yet, my P4 is currently up to date.
If it is not working maybe issue support ticket to GHL and they will explain how the feature works.

Yes, you are able to do the updates through the Wifilan card with the App, but they have not release a version of the app that you can do this with yet

That is exactly the problem. There is no version of the GHL connect app that may do that now.

I figured they just didn’t release update that supports the new process…

That is unfortunate if they are still working on the software side…

GHL came out with an App update last night. You can now update your P4 from the app. On your connect screen, click on the gear to the right side. It will then give you an option to save your settings or update. Update 7.48 also came out last night too. I am doing it through the app right now.

Thank you very much. Indeed, the new GHL connect allows for the P4 firmware update. I'm always nervous about firmware updates so, if you don't mind, I'll wait until you confirm that everything went right and smooth.

Just to add, this option is available only on the local device, I never use the local devices so almost missed the feature.

I will also wait for someone else to experiment first…

Yes it went smoothly and no problems for me
Thank you for the update, out of curiosity did it allow update of the other devices on the PAB chain?

I recall from one of the discussions that it was going to be possible to update the other devices with the new WifiLan card…

That is a different card. The Mitras card is PLM-PWC.

The new card is PLM-WiFiLAN. I don’t think it controls Mitras, but could be wrong.

The GHL subforum is read only. You can’t start a thread there.
