After a long wait I'll finally get our first fish (in 30 years). I'm expecting to get a small maroon clown next week. Is a prophylactic Brook treatment recommended? If yes, is formalin bath the preferred way? Being new, I am a bit anxious about subjecting the fish to several transfers and steps from LFS to qt tank, but maybe I need to just get over that. In any case, the fish will spend the first few weeks in a modest qt tank with copper and then prazi.

Generally not. With brook, it is more commonly found with wild caught clowns versus tank raised but many stores will not know this info unless they’re buying from a local breeder.
You can to alleviate chances of occurrence by quarantining them for 3-4 weeks with ruby rally pro or formalin based quick cure if you can find it.
Inspect fish at time of purchase for heavy slime, heavy breathing, ask to see it eat and offer healthy diet- tdo pellets, brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, LRS nano frenzy
