I'm not sure how you could install it as the mounts clamp to the glass.

Ugh - that's too bad. I do have about a 3/8" lip at the top of the tank above the brace. Do you think the clamps could grab onto a lip that small or would it slip off?

No I do not, the clamps really don't clamp per say. They kind of just keep it upright. The knobs on the ends rest on the glass.
