Ok I've been doing this for about two years now. Well my tank has been running for two years, do to life I've only really been into this again for the past few months. Now that I can afford to spend some money on my tank I made a dumb mistake and purchased the sea clone 100 which I knew I would hate but I bought it anyway. It makes a ton of bubbles in my tank and hasn't skimmed a thing. Its only been a few days but I already want to return it.

OK so to the question. I have a standard 55g tank I do a 5g water change every weekend. I've read a few places that with such frequent water changes like that a protein skimmer isn't really necessary. What do you guys think about that? Or if you disagree after I return the sea clone what type of hang on skimmer would you recommend?

if u return it i would probably use a reef octopus (bh-100) it worked great and comes with a reasonable price.
