Protein skimmer size vs tank size

So I have a free Coral Life 65 gallon skimmer, but I my tank is 75 gallons w/ 20 gallon sump. My question is would the skimmer I have be good enough or do I need to go out and buy a bigger skimmer. Whats the worst that could happen by sticking with the smaller skimmer. The tank isn't set up yet and I plan to have several pounds of DIY live rock.

Yea, that skimmer is way under sized, and isn't a great skimmer at all. Worst that would happne is that you would be doing more frequent water changes to keep the water quality under control.

Crap I hate to by another skimmer when I have a new one sitting under the stand lol. Have you heard of the Aqua One Proskim g220? I can get one of those for a good price

Not only will you have to do more water changes, when you upgrade your tank (which we all eventually do ) you will have to buy another one anyway. So buy a much bigger, good quality one now that will last a long time even if you upgrade. Saves a lot of money that way.
