Hello all, just wanted to get your take on a protein skimmer size (aquamaxx dqc-2) to which I just purchased for my 130 gal build... I plan to run a FOWLR tank . I have a filter roller trigger system for a sump which is about 40gal. is this skimmer too big?

Think you'll be ok, I always sized up a bit... just more air in the water 
I don't know if you can have too big of a skimmer in a FOWLR, or in a reef either.

As far as skimmers are concerned, I have always felt the opposite. I've seen too many people with oversized skimmers not be able to keep a consistent skim. Sometimes they will find massive overflows and more often than not it will not bubble up over the top.
