I have a Red Sea 500 set up. I’m looking for a new protein skimmer. I’m looking for recommendations for a new skimmer. I saw good reviews on the simplicity 240 D. Any thoughts?

Is there a question in your post somewhere or is it simply an announcement that you're looking for a new skimmer?

I have one on a 90g. Pulls out dark, nasty gunk. Rarely needs adjusting. Easy to take apart and clean. Quiet - can't hear the pump just the bubbling but that is unavoidable. Love mine.
Runs well in about 7" of water so you may need a stand.
Your tank is a bit larger so may want to go up a size depending on your bioload.

I’ve always had really good luck with Reef Octo skimmers. They’ve been rock solid for me over the years, so it’s hard to justify switching.

That said, I’ve always wanted to try a Bubble King with the Red Dragon pumps. The engineering and build quality look top-notch, but Reef Octo has worked so well for me for so long that I keep going back to what I know works.

We have been using a small screwdriver to adjust but something else is wrong because it is throwing out many many bubbles.
Tunze makes good equipment, in general. They also have good customer service and back their products. Have you tried contacting them directly to get any input on the problem?

Any particular reef octo model preferred?

If interested in Reef Octo skimmers then you probably want to look at a 150 model.

One that is meant for your Total water Volume. If you go that route just set it once. When you want to clean it just turn it off. Except for my HOB eshopps I cannot speak to other manufacturers myself but others have said the same for different ones

Call Roger at Tunze and see if it can be fixed or under warranty,
If you want another skimmer buy one, sell the Tunze it will go in a day.

Roger can and will fix this. And it will cheaper than the cheapest skimmer. If you are concerned about not having a skimmer while controller gets fixed, just bump up your water change amount or reduce feeding

Thanks for all the great recommendations. I’m going to stay with what I have for now.
