How important are protein skimmers. I have a fairly new tank and am going to be putting a couple snails into it just to make sure the tank is good, before I put any other stuff into it, and after that I would really like to be able to get some hardy coral, but I don't have a protein skimmer, and I'm not going to be putting a lot of corals in the tank I would just like a few. So my question is do I need to get a protein skimmer before or am I ok without.

PS, the tank is 40 gallons, no sump I have a Tidal 110 hob filter, and proper lights

A protein skimmer isn't a necessity, it's just another tool to help 🙂

Did you nitrogen cycle the new tank before adding livestock?

Yes the tank is cycled, and has no live stock right now. I plan to add a couple snails soon though.
