Having a big ball of Chaeto and pruning small bits or pruning a large amount and leaving a small ball of chaeto to grow?

idk but i had a big ball about 8 inch round and all i did was take a pair of scissors and cut about 10 times and that stuff doubled in growth in about 2 weeks
