Spoke to a friend of mine recently about phosphate issues etc.

He didn't realize his RO filter was shot!

Made me look at my filter and I realised I need to swap some stuff out too.

When was the last time you looked at your RODI filter to make sure all is good???

Here is what the 20" sediment (5 micron - 1st stage) looks like after ~12,000 Gallons of quality NYC Tap has run through it.

Here is the 2nd stage of sediment (1 Micron) and first carbon block.

Woof. Be interested to see what impact that had on the TDS.

Probably not much - clean sediment filters just make the next stages work efficiently and last much longer.

My membranes (I run dual setup to minimize waste) are nearly 5 years old. I get 0 TDS out of RO.

System was built to provide RO for drinking and DI for ATO and WC.

I test my water frequently and I change the cartridges when tds goes up, never have an issue. Always a good idea to keep replacements on hand so you can swap out filters when needed. Mileage will vary on them from place to place and week to week depending on the source water and usage. My setup is easy to use, a half turn of the cartridges to remove and replace them, no tools needed, they last between 6 months to 1 year between changes depending on usage and my water supply.

5 years on a membrane? Do you not drink much water or do water changes very often? Or do you just have 20ppm water on tap? 😂😅 I have one for drinking/ cooking only and get about 1 year out of them before needing to change the filter. 5 years is insane!

I use one of these to track actual usage vs carbon block capacity.

Is your source water soft though? I tend to rely on tds measurements to determine if mine need changed.

TDS of NYC water is somewhere between 35-50 depending on time of day, season, etc.

We do drink a lot of RO. I have 14-gallon pressurized tank fed by the filter for those needs.

What really helps is how I automated the filter to dump initial water and flush membranes pre and post production. I also use booster pump and run the membranes at about 90PSI which increases efficiency, production and longevity.

Ah, there we go. Super soft water. Nice. That helps a ton! You have softer water than me lucky! Had me wondering if there was a better unit for a second 😂. Mine flushes as well and that does help a ton, it produces 1,000gpd so I dont have a need for tank for drinking water, it does have a booster pump as well. Running at 90psi for efficiency and longevity is interesting, I believe mine runs a bit lower pressure.

That reminds me, I probably should check mine, haha
