I've got a Stars and Stripes puffer that I know will eat pretty much any invert, but I can't find any info on if Abalone would survive. I know they have a super strong foot, but would the puffer still be able to kill it?

Once large enough the puffer will break the abelone's shell.

Isn't abalone a colder water critter ? A puffer strong enough to crack a shell is strong indeed. Will they eat "any" invert ? how about a cleaner shrimp who pretty much get a free pass ?

The tank he's in is 71F, and what type of cleaner shrimp? There are lots of shrimp that are cleaners.

The shrimp? ummm, The ones with yellow & red bands running front to back ?
I'll get the proper name, gotta look. Thanks for letting me butt in here. I'm considering a puffer in a new 180.

Cleaner shrimp will definitely be eaten by a puffer.

Dinner, for sure. I love puffers, but they're not 'community tank' friendly :)

I agree, was looking at Abalone for some extra "algae management" since they have a super strong hold and are nocturnal...main concern was the puffers ability to kill it. I gave up on inverts a couple years ago when my 6-7" Checkerboard Wrasse killed them all...he would continuously ram turbos off the glass to flip them over and eat them and killed all the hermits

Puffer 1 - Abelone 0
My little fat Figure 8 wrecks clam shells. Like today! Look at that belly. He latches on and hangs on like a pitt bull on a tire.

Slightly off topic, but can you mix different species of puffers in the same tank?

Yes, but not all mix well, and the order of species matters.

Makes sense, like Tangs then. Where could I find the correct order to best try and avoid issues?
There isn't anything in print that I'm aware of. What species are you thinking about?

I've got a Stars and Stripes now, but was looking a mappa and PIA had a pelagic I really like as well. In about 8 months my FOWLR is being moved into a 300g and wanted to add a couple more if possible

Stars and stripes are more aggressive than either the the mappa or blue peleagic. The other 2 would have to be established before a stars and stripes were introduced.

The puffer will eat just about anything including anemones (even aiptasia) , corals, yummy looking fish and inverts.... mine even eats nori seaweed
