So I have a pulsing Xenia coming in today and yes I’ve researched all the pros and cons (potentially taking over the tank) but I’m still going to give it a go. I do want to try to isolate even though I know they can break off and spread on their own. If I put it on the sand bed does it need to be on a rock on the sand or can they go directly on the sand? And I guess that’s a question I have for any coral since I’ve never placed one on the sand before.

Initially you probably give Xenia a better chance of success by placing the frag on rock. Xenia can be easy in some tanks and melt in others. It's not a no brainer coral as some make it out to be. I keep mine isolated to one easily removed piece of rock.
