heya! wife just got back from out of town and now so is the dslr. ;) so i should get a snapshot this weekend sometime! :D
calendar: was your donation the one that came in on the 30th? if so - it was shipped out on the 31st! :D most peeps get them in ~7-10 days. but the LONGEST i've seen so far is 16 days. i felt horrible, it was to one of the photographers too!!! and i have one other shipment MIA atm which is going on day 18 now i think. if it doesn't show up by monday for them, i'm going to ship another batch (they got a few) via fedex on monday.

Hey all, just an update on the PDs. They are still the same color after hubby has been running the phos remover. I think it may be because my water quality is crap (some amonia, nitrates, nitrites). Hubby's RO/DI unit croaked and he hasn't set up the new one so my water changes are based on the availability of 'salt water in a box' at Petco. I'm gonna stock up on it and work heavy on the water changes (but not too heavy to shock it) and see if that purples them up.
da6d2003, I looked at them at night a few times and they are the same rusty color.
Have you guys noticed they have green slit mouths? It isn't always visible on mine...perhaps after they feed or something...i just noticed that the other night.

Interesting 'shinyness' on the top closed polyp! Yes, I have bubble algae... ;)
See the blue center forming though?
Also -- I didn't notice the speckling until taking these shots on the right hand polyp. Some of my other frags that came from the low-light tank to the high-light tank are speckling a bit. :D
For size comparison, this is on a BAF plug (not disc), so they aren't very large in this state.

I have some Cat Eyes that are supposedly traced back to you. They really don't seem to like my lighting (T5s) and the skirts are a little bleached and the center is more reddish/pinkish. They looked quite good when I got em :( I'm just curious as to where you have them situated in your tank and what kind of growth you're getting. I haven't gotten a new polyp since adding them and have had them for over 4 months.
I'll post some pics of my PDs tomorrow to make up for my OT post :p

Well i thought my PD's were purple but just got another frag of PD from Carolina Frags and they are even more purple than mine like a bluish purple!!! Now i can't decide to put it in high light or low??? I'm going to move my other PD's around and see if they morph colors. As last week turbols300 received a frag from me and his is turning brownish red color as mentioned earlier in this thread??? Anymore people out there with PD's can you tell us your placement. High or Low light???
I have had my PDs in every light situation there is and never had them turn brown or fade out. There are many people here that can testify to that fact. What type of actinic supplementation do you have in your lights? I also think that they will be more purple in low nutrient water compared to high nutrient water like most zoanthids and plays like......
Well i'm going to throw one of the frags into my other tank and see what color it turns i have one tank that's skimmerless and one has skimmer.

Hyper. I thikn it might be the nutrient levels in your tank. THey seem to be loosing their brown coloration a bit. the baby polyp has really started to change. I'm about to start running some carbon for a short time to really polish off the water and see what it does. I moved my light down really close to the water (well alot closer than previous) so I'm hoping that the combo of more light and even cleaner water will really help them take off. I guess it's like the sps you gave me??? The nutrient levels are a bit high???? Just a guess. After I get a new camera or atleast learn how to take a good shot I'll post.

I think they actually like lower light not high light. The lower lights one are the more purplish ones. I wonder what conditions make it the bluish purple one?

Well I'll see soon as I lowered my lights over the weekend so....... I haven't added the carbon yet as I am waiting for the weekend. Nice frag by the way!!!
I have my PD's down on the sandbed, shaded and they are brilliant purple and small/medium in polyp size...:)
Yep it seems like the smaller the polyps the more purple. The bluish purple one is super small compare to my other ones that are like the size of a dime.
Zoa coloration - confused now more than ever!
I'm new to zoa collecting, but this thread makes me feel both better and worse! I've bought a bunch of zoas over the past year (locallly and online high-end). I've done my best to provide them with the best possible conditions - perfect water parameters aside from nitrates (5-10); 150W HQI lighting (on a 12 gallon Aquapod) with trials of a 14K JBL bulb and a Hamilton 20K (no way to add significant actinics to a 12gallon AP with a clip-on Viper fixture). I've tried feeding and not feeding. I change 4 gallons weekly (Red Sea Coral Pro) with RO/DI water. No matter what I do, my zoas (and ricordia) never look as vibrant and colorful of the photos. My Purple Death frag polyps (the topic of this thread) look much more pale brown than purple with no coloration on their tiny skirts. Nevertheless, they are beginning to multiply.
Considering the differences between specimens based on lighting alone (aside from the many other variables) I'm amazed that anyone is even able to accurately identify zoas.
