I have a tough time getting good shots with my SLR. Do you put it in "RAW" mode?

Thanks all, I took the picture with a canon point and shoot (not my nicer SLR camera).....I think it was just a lucky shot with the camera in automatic mode. I was taking family pics and just snapped a few top down shots while my blue LEDs were on and most of the pictures looked like crap, but this one turned out really nice. Usually, I use my tripod with my SLR to get a nice macro shot......
