Hi,

I have come across a purple mask angelfish at the lfs and am extremely tempted to pick it up but am unsure how well it will adapt to quarantine and then my display tank in general.

My first concern is I already have a flame angel who has been in the tank for 2 years.

My second concern and considerably less so is the purple tang I have. The tang ( only tang in tank ) is fairly placid imo most of the time, although it is prone to occasionally chasing the flame angel.

The purple mask angel to me seems to be a fairly shy and placid fish, so will it stand up for itself.

Other tank mates include, 2 ocellaris clowns, 3 blue green chromis, a sixline wrasse, a multicoloured wrasse and a yellow watchman goby.

The tank is 400ltr (100 gal) with rock work taking up 25 - 30 percent of tank. Also included is a small amount of coral..

Any tips and experiences would be appreciated..

Thx

First make sure it's eating, these fish are known to be finicky eaters.

Second, I would use furan 2 for the qt portion to stave off any bacterial issues as these can succumb pretty easily to bad water quality.

Third purple tang probably won't like it at first so using an acclimation box will help get it accustomed to other tank mates while being protected.

I woyld advise against adding a venusta angel to a tank that size with an established flame angel and purple tang. That tank doesn't have a ton of real estate and venusta angels are a more timid species.

I had one a while back. Got it eating and to a healthy weight in QT. Put it into the display, it darted behind the rocks and I never saw it again. I'd pass.

Thx. This is the kind of reply I am after, people with first hand experience.

I had suspected this fish could be a little on the timid side to be housed with other angels so will most likely leave it but am still interested in hearing from anyone who has had success and their setup.
